queensbridge road

hackney, london

a delapidated grade II listed georgian townhouse from the 1800’s re-imagined for new generation of family in london fields. the ex-council property had been split into flats for social housing so we busied ourselves negotiating freehold agreements, along with listed building consent. we celebrated the sense of proportion and space associated with this period of architecture by creating oversized openings. using the largest pocket doors available the floorplan is made fluid and flexible.

facade restoration

the façade was in need of repair and we lead its full restoration. the brickwork had been dyed red and was cleaned, we were delighted at the brick revealed underneath. the existing concrete pointing was replaced with a traditional lime mix.

the collapsed window surround was rebuilt by hand to match the original profile and the string cornice had been missing since the war and was re-instated.

retaining the existing rear addition saved carbon and was converted into a monopitch roof - transforming poor space into a garden room.
